Program Overview
Psychology Programme
The master's programme in Psychology at VU Amsterdam is an English-taught programme that focuses on the effectiveness and wellbeing of employees within organisations and work situations. The programme takes one year and consists of lectures, seminars, and practical skills sessions.
Curriculum
The curriculum includes a range of courses that focus on theoretical, methodological, and practical organisational issues. The connection between theory and practice is continuously made throughout the programme. Most of the teachers have practical experience and are professionals in their field, providing excellent guidance for students' careers.
Research
The research activities of the Organizational Psychology group are combined under the Amsterdam Leadership Lab in collaboration with the Institute for Brain and Behaviour Amsterdam (IBBA). The group is highly international and cooperates with a wide variety of departments and institutions within VU Amsterdam, as well as several international universities. The department also has strong contacts with major public and private organisations in the Netherlands, Europe, and beyond.
Internship and Master's Thesis
During the programme, students will conduct a practice- or research-oriented internship, giving them a good idea of their future profession. The programme's extensive internship network provides students with important contacts for their future career as a psychologist. Students will also write a master's thesis on research they have conducted independently into a subject within their field of expertise.
Career Prospects
As a psychologist, graduates can work in emergency services, hospitals, mental health institutions, or nursing homes. They can also work as an HR manager or organisational consultant in the business world. The programme prepares students for their career as a psychologist, with a focus on individual characteristics and social processes that shape organisations.
