Program Overview

Rechtsgeleerdheid

The study of law, both past and present, is an integral part of the Rechtsgeleerdheid program. This program is designed for individuals interested in understanding the intricacies of law and its impact on society.

Toelatingseisen met een Nederlandse vooropleiding

To be eligible for the Rechtsgeleerdheid program with a Dutch prior education, students must meet specific requirements:

• Vwo-diploma: The program is open to students with the following vwo profiles:
  • Natuur en Gezondheid
  • Natuur en Techniek
  • Economie en Maatschappij
  • Cultuur en Maatschappij
• Hbo propedeuse:
  • Students with an hbo propedeuse Rechten (opleidingscode 39205 or 30108) are directly eligible if completed within one academic year. Otherwise, they must also obtain a certificaat vwo-staatsexamen Nederlands.
  • Those with an hbo propedeuse Sociaal Juridische Dienstverlening from Hogeschool Inholland (opleidingscode 34641) are eligible if completed within one year; otherwise, they need a certificaat vwo-staatsexamen Nederlands.
  • For other Dutch hbo propedeuse diplomas, eligibility requires an additional certificaat vwo-staatsexamen Nederlands.
• Hbo bachelor:
  • A certificaat vwo-staatsexamen Nederlands is required, except for those who have already completed a Dutch hbo bachelor.
• WO-propedeuse:
  • Students with a WO-propedeuse from a Dutch wo-education or 60 EC from the first year of a Dutch wo-education may also be eligible. Their admission will be assessed after applying through Studielink.

Toelatingseisen 21+ toelatingsonderzoek

For individuals aged 21 or older without a diploma that grants admission to a university bachelor's program, the 21+ admission test is an option. Requirements include:

• Engels op 6 vwo-niveau
• Nederlands: vwo-staatsexamen
• Geschiedenis op 6 vwo-niveau

Toelatingseisen met een buitenlandse vooropleiding

For students with a foreign diploma, admission is not always direct. After applying through Studielink, students will receive an email with instructions to upload necessary documents for the admission assessment. Additional requirements may include:

• Behaald certificaat Engelse taal op 6 vwo-niveau
• Behaald certificaat Nederlandse taal: het vwo staatsexamen óf CNaVT (EDUP C1)
• Behaald certificaat geschiedenis op 6 vwo-niveau

VU Studiekeuzecheck

The VU Studiekeuzecheck is a two-step process to help students determine if the Rechtsgeleerdheid program is the right fit:

1. Vragenlijst: A questionnaire on VU.nl that provides a personal advice report.
2. Studiekeuzecheckactiviteit: An online activity in Canvas that offers a realistic view of the program, including a lecture, a law book exercise, and information on the Personal and Professional Identity learning line.

Bindend Studie Advies (BSA)

To receive a positive study advice, students must have earned at least 42 EC with first-year courses by the end of their first year of enrollment.
