Program Overview

Senior Kwalificatie Examinering (SKE-IO)

The Senior Kwalificatie Examinering (SKE-IO) is a certification program that focuses on anchoring test expertise in educational institutions and programs. It is a nationally recognized certificate in HBO and WO, and it is usually preceded by the BKE certificate, which stimulates test expertise at the course level.

Introduction

The SKE certificate is obtained individually, but the learning gain exceeds the level of the SKE candidate and also radiates to their own program. The SKE trajectories provided by the VU Centre for Teaching & Learning are in line with the nationally established SKE qualities, which have been in effect since May 2020.

Content

The program covers four main qualities:

  • Quality 1: Acting within the context of test policy and test organization
    • Evaluating the quality of those parts of/processes within the test organization for which one is responsible, and being able to advise on this.
    • Being aware of the different roles, tasks, and responsibilities within the test organization.
    • Making an active contribution from one's own role to practical tools for colleagues, and to the development, implementation, and/or evaluation of the test policy and/or the (frameworks of the) test organization of the program.
  • Quality 2: Acting within the education and test program
    • Making an active contribution to the development of the test program of the program.
    • Evaluating the quality of the test program from the desired learning outcomes and advising on the (re)design of the test program.
    • Overseeing the whole and the coherence between tests within the program in relation to the education program.
  • Quality 3: Applying test knowledge and skills adequately
    • Supporting and guiding colleagues in the testing process and evaluating the quality of tests of oneself and colleagues.
    • Translating the results of evaluations into concrete recommendations.
    • Advising on design and assessment issues.
    • Continuously making considerations based on the function of the tests and the context in which they are used.
  • Quality 4: Staying test proficient
    • Being a critical professional focused on the further development of one's own test proficiency, suitable for one's role, tasks, and responsibilities.
    • Conducting and/or initiating the substantive discussion about the importance of test proficiency as part of teacher proficiency and about the quality of testing within the program.

Result

The SKE certificate is a valuable asset for educational professionals, demonstrating their expertise in test development, implementation, and evaluation. It is a recognition of their ability to contribute to the quality of education and testing within their institution.
