Program Details

Introduction

The Master's program in Advanced Criminal Procedural Law aims to provide students with specialized knowledge in the field, enabling them to become experts in criminal procedural law. The program covers various aspects of the subject, including the latest scientific developments and their practical applications.

Program Structure

The program consists of 10 modules, each covering a specific aspect of criminal procedural law:


  1. Introductory Aspects: Systematic and accusatory systems, burden of proof, and presumption of innocence.
  2. Parts of the Criminal Process: The defendant, the victim, and the legal person.
  3. International Norms and Practical Applications: European norms on the European arrest warrant, European search warrant, and related norms.
  4. Criminal Investigation and Scientific Advances: Objectives of the investigation, technology, and neuroscience in criminal investigation.
  5. Precautionary Measures: Alternative measures to provisional imprisonment and the scientific evaluation of the risk of recidivism.
  6. Evidence I: Interrogations, criminalistics, and biological evidence. Economic expertise.
  7. Standards of Proof and Weighing of Evidence: Standards of proof and weighing of evidence.
  8. Sentence and Appeals: Motivation, congruence, and res judicata. Interlocutory appeals and appeal.
  9. Journalism, Oratory, and Criminal Process: Sources of journalistic research and parallel trials. Oratory skills in the criminal process.
  10. Final Project

Target Audience

The program is designed for individuals with a degree in Law, Criminology, Journalism, Social Sciences, Psychology, Sociology, or related fields.


Faculty

The program is directed by Dr. Jordi Nieva Fenoll, a professor of Procedural Law, and coordinated by Sra. Núria Borràs Andrés, a postdoctoral researcher. The faculty includes renowned experts in the field of criminal procedural law.


Accreditation

The program is accredited by the University of Barcelona and is equivalent to 60 ECTS credits.
