Introduction to the Program
The University of Barcelona offers a comprehensive program in Conservation-Restoration of Cultural Heritage, providing students with the theoretical, practical, technical, and scientific knowledge necessary to examine, diagnose, document, conserve, and restore cultural artifacts.
Objectives and Competencies

- General Competencies: Ethical commitment, communication skills, teamwork, creative and entrepreneurial capacity, sustainability, and critical reasoning.
- Specific Competencies: Dominate vocabulary and legal and normative corpus regulating the conservation-restoration profession, analyze and identify materials and technologies used in cultural heritage artifacts, recognize degradation agents and alterations, and apply conservation-restoration treatments.
Access and Admission
Profile and Requirements
The program is designed for students with an interest in art, culture, and heritage, who possess a strong foundation in science and technology. Applicants should have a high school diploma or equivalent and pass the university entrance exams.
Pre-Enrollment and Enrollment
Pre-enrollment is required, and enrollment is subject to availability. Students must also meet the specific requirements for the program, including language proficiency in Catalan, Spanish, and English.
Curriculum
The program consists of 240 credits, distributed over four years, with a combination of compulsory, optional, and practical courses.
Course Distribution
- First Year: Introduction to conservation-restoration, drawing, art history, and materials science.
- Second Year: Examen, diagnosis, and documentation, introduction to conservation-restoration of painting and graphic documents, and physics applied to cultural heritage.
- Third Year: Conservation preventive, laboratory of cleaning systems, and packaging, transport, and exhibition of cultural heritage artifacts.
- Fourth Year: Practical courses, final project, and optional courses in specialized areas, such as archaeology, paleography, and iconology.
Itineraries and Mentions
The program offers two itineraries: Painting and Graphic Documents (Organic Supports) and Archaeological Materials, Petrological, and Mural Painting (Inorganic Supports).
Practices and Internships
The program includes compulsory practical courses and internships, providing students with hands-on experience in conservation-restoration techniques and methodologies.
