Program Overview


M.S. in Mobile and IoT Engineering (MSMITE)

The M.S. in Mobile and IoT Engineering (MSMITE) program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in the field of mobile and IoT engineering. The program is offered by the Information Networking Institute (INI) at Carnegie Mellon University.


Program Curriculum

The MSMITE program curriculum is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in the principles and practices of mobile and IoT engineering. The curriculum consists of the following components:

Program Electives [48 Units]

The program electives consist of 36 units fulfilled by courses in INI, Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), School of Computer Science (SCS), Engineering & Public Policy (EPP), Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), or Integrated Innovation Institute (III), and/or approved courses in the Heinz College or Tepper School. Additionally, 12 units of restricted electives are required.


Residency Requirement [0 Units]

All students must fulfill a residency requirement, which varies depending on the study option chosen. Students in the Standard study option must complete one semester at CMU Silicon Valley, while students in the Advanced study option must complete two semesters at CMU Silicon Valley.


Academic Advising

Each student is assigned a dedicated faculty academic advisor who can provide advice on developing a plan that best fits their interests, needs, and goals. Students also benefit from enrollment and career advising provided by the academic and student services team.


Practicum

The practicum is a semester-long project where teams of bicoastal MSIT-IS and MSMITE students at the CMU Silicon Valley campus work alongside industry sponsors to tackle problems, pilot new ideas, and develop solutions.
