Program Overview

MS in ECE Program Overview

The Master of Science (MS) in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) program provides students with a thorough background in the fundamentals of electrical and computer engineering, as well as the opportunity for in-depth specialization in some particular aspect of these fields. Upon enrollment in the department, students are given the opportunity, with the help of an academic advisor and faculty mentor, to choose an educational program consistent with their background and best-suited to their own academic goals.

Concentrations

MS in ECE students can choose one of the following concentrations for focused study in a particular area of electrical and computer engineering:

  • AI/ML Systems
  • Intelligent Physical Systems
  • Computational Engineering Methods/Systems
  • Computer Security
  • Network/Distributed Systems
  • Wireless/Embedded Systems
  • Integrated Systems
  • Devices and Nanofab

Dual-degree Offerings

MS in Engineering and Technology Innovation Management

Students who are interested in ECE and innovation management may also be interested in this program offered by E&TIM.

ECE/Thailand

Established as a collaboration between Carnegie Mellon University and King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), ECE/Thailand will provide cutting-edge engineering research and education in Southeast Asia.

Affiliated Programs

Information Networking Institute

Students interested in ECE may also be interested in the programs offered by the INI, including:

  • MS in Information Networking
  • MS in Information Security (MSIS)
  • INI Integrated Master's Program

MS in Music & Technology

Students who are interested in the technical aspects of sound production, music representation, music signal processing, and sound recording may also be interested in the MS in Music & Technology offered by the School of Music, Computer Science, and ECE.

MS in Energy, Science, Technology, and Policy

Students who are interested in ECE and interdisciplinary studies in energy may also be interested in the Energy Science, Technology, and Policy (ESTP) program offered by the College of Engineering.

Academic Integrity Policy

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering adheres to the academic integrity policies set forth by Carnegie Mellon University and the College of Engineering. ECE students should carefully review Carnegie Mellon University's policies regarding Cheating and Plagiarism, Undergraduate Academic Discipline, and Graduate Academic Discipline. ECE graduate students should further review the Penalties for Graduate Student Academic Integrity Violations in CIT outlined in the CIT Policy on Graduate Student Academic Integrity Violations. In addition to the above university- and college-level policies, it is ECE's policy that an ECE graduate student may not drop a course in which a disciplinary action is assessed or pending without the course instructor's explicit approval. Further, an ECE course instructor may set their own course-specific academic integrity policies that do not conflict with university- and college-level policies; course-specific policies should be made available to students in writing in the first week of class.
