Program Description
Carnegie Mellon University is the #1 school in the U.S. for artificial intelligence education. The AIM program, housed in CMU's Heinz College, will teach students to apply AI to real-world problems. Heinz College has a blend of faculty, coursework, and history of interdisciplinary instruction to attract and educate future leaders.
Curriculum and Learning Opportunities
The 12-month, three-semester program offers hands-on learning opportunities through Heinz College's robust industry partnerships. Students will apply their coursework to real-world problems and gain an advantage in the job market. The college is also home to two research centers: the Block Center for Technology and Society and the PwC Digital Transformation and Innovation Center.
Research Areas and Projects
Students will work on projects such as:
- Building an AI-powered content moderation system for social media platforms
- Building secure large language models using open-source frameworks
- Using machine learning to categorate Major League Baseball game footage
- Safeguarding critical infrastructure, from power grids and water supplies to voter rolls
- Using AI and ML to analyze banking data and reduce risk while bolstering growth
The Block Center: AI for Good
The Block Center for Technology and Society provides an outlet for students and faculty to study the effects of AI implementation. Recent projects include:
- Creating working groups for the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) to educate them on how AI will impact their work
- A student-created Capstone project that helped the Pennsylvania Governor's office implement generative AI
Accelerated Master's Programs
Students in undergraduate programs at Carnegie Mellon can earn their bachelor’s and AIM degrees together in five years instead of six.
