Integrated Design Engineering (IDE)
Program Overview
Integrated Design Engineering (IDE)
The Integrated Design Engineering (IDE) program is part of the College of Engineering and Applied Science. This program offers a unique approach to engineering education, focusing on hands-on project courses and flexibility in pursuing passions without the additional cost and time of a second major or minor.
The IDE Difference
The IDE program stands out due to its emphasis on hands-on project courses, which are required each year. These courses equip students with the skills to lead team-based initiatives and provide an opportunity to put theory into practice. Additionally, the program allows students to pursue their passions without incurring extra costs or time, making it easier to explore minors or concentrations across different academic colleges.
Emphases and Concentrations
The IDE program offers:
- 6 Emphases: These give students the opportunity to explore their engineering passion and establish a disciplinary engineering foundation.
- 20+ Concentrations: These are additional fields of study that students can pursue without the additional cost or time of a second major or minor. Concentrations can be chosen based on students' interests and can include pre-professional tracks.
Core and Foundational Courses
- IDE Core Courses: All core classes focus on hands-on design and experimentation, helping students apply theoretical knowledge in practical ways.
- Foundational Courses: These include required courses in mathematics, natural and social sciences, humanities, and writing, providing a well-rounded education.
News and Announcements
Recent news includes stories of IDE students making a global impact through projects such as constructing bridges in Bolivia and Eswatini, and building lasting relationships with local communities. The program also recognizes the achievements of its graduating students and alumni, such as the winners of the Graduating Student Awards from the College of Engineering and Applied Science and the Alumni Engagement Medal.
Program Overview
The Integrated Design Engineering program at the University of Colorado Boulder is designed to offer students a flexible and accredited engineering education. With its emphasis on hands-on learning, interdisciplinary approaches, and the opportunity to pursue multiple passions, the IDE program prepares students for success in a wide range of engineering fields and beyond.
