Program Overview

Admissions

The University of Colorado Law School offers various programs, including the JD Program, Master of Laws (LLM), and Master of Studies in Law (MSL).

JD Program

• The JD program application opens on October 1 for fall admission the following year.
• All applicants must apply electronically through the Law School Admission Council (LSAC).
• The application checklist includes:
  • Registering for the Law School Admission Council (LSAC) Credential Assembly Service (CAS) and paying all appropriate fees
  • Registering, preparing for, and taking the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT)
  • Submitting all official undergraduate and graduate transcripts to LSAC
  • Submitting two letters of recommendation to LSAC
  • Submitting the application, personal statement, and resume electronically through LSAC
  • Submitting the In-State Tuition Classification Application to apply for in-state tuition if qualified
  • Paying the $65 application fee
  • Checking the status of the application online

JD Application Components

• Application: The application will open on October 1 for fall admission the following year. All applicants must apply electronically through LSAC.
• Transcripts: Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions of higher education must be submitted for application review.
• Résumé: A resume is required and must be submitted electronically through LSAC as part of the electronic application.
• Personal Statement: The personal statement provides an opportunity to present oneself to the Admissions Committee. It must be submitted with the electronic LSAC application and should not exceed 1,000 words.
• Addenda: Any addenda must be attached electronically following the personal statement and clearly labeled as "Additional Information."
• LSAT: All applicants must take the Law School Admission Test.
• Credential Assembly Service (CAS): Applicants must register for the Credential Assembly Service (CAS) as part of their LSAC application.
• Recommendation Letters: Two letters of recommendation are required, and no more than four will be accepted.
• Character and Fitness Questions: Additional information and commonly asked questions can be found on the character and fitness website.
• Residency: All applicants who wish to qualify for in-state tuition must submit the In-State Tuition Classification Application.

JD Application FAQs

• The application opens on October 1 and closes on April 1 for the fall entering JD class.
• The school does not have an early decision or early action process and admits students on a rolling basis.
• The Admissions Committee begins reviewing completed applications in mid-October and notifies applicants by email regarding the Committee's decision on a rolling basis.
• A waitlist is established, and applicants are notified if there is any change in decision.
• Deferrals are granted on a case-by-case basis, particularly for active duty military, Teach for America, and Peace Corps service.

Academics
