Program Overview


Introduction to the Creative Technology and Design BS Program

The Creative Technology and Design (CTD) BS program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in creative technology and design. The program combines the technical, conceptual, and creative foundations of creative technology practices, preparing students for careers in a wide range of fields.


Program Coursework

The CTD BS program requires a total of 128 credit hours, consisting of:


  • 59 credit hours of CTD coursework
  • 69-72 credit hours of general coursework

CTD Foundation and Core Courses

The CTD foundation and core courses provide a comprehensive introduction to the fundamental concepts, theories, and histories relevant to creative technology and design. The foundation courses include:


  • ATLS 1100: Design Foundations
  • ATLS 1300: Computational Foundations I
  • ATLS 2000: The Meaning of Information Technology

The core courses include:


  • ATLS 2100: Image
  • ATLS 2200: Web
  • ATLS 2300: Text
  • ATLS 3100: Form
  • ATLS 3200: Sound
  • ATLS 3300: Object

CTD Focus Electives

Students in the CTD program complete 6 focus elective courses (18 credit hours), with at least 12 of the 18 credits being upper-division courses (3000+). At least 12 of the 18 credit hours and at least 4 of the 6 classes must be ATLS courses.


CTD Critical Perspectives in Technology Electives

Students in the CTD program complete 2 Critical Perspectives in Technology electives (6 credit hours), which challenge students to think critically about the effects of technology across a broad range of disciplines, perspectives, and methodologies.


CTD How-To Electives

Students in the CTD program complete 4 How-To electives (4 credit hours), which teach students a range of practical skills that supplement and develop topics from across the CTD curriculum.


CTD Capstone Sequence

During senior year, students complete 7 credit hours in the two-semester Capstone course sequence, which gives students the opportunity to put the technical skills and creative concepts acquired during their undergraduate careers into practice.


General Coursework

The general coursework requirements include:


  • Mathematics: 13-15 credit hours
  • Natural Sciences: 12-13 credit hours
  • Engineering and Computation: 8 credit hours
  • Humanities, Social Sciences, and Writing: 21 credit hours
  • Free Electives: 15 credit hours

Program Requirements

  • A grade of C or better is required in all terminal Foundation, Core, and Capstone courses.
  • A grade of C- or higher is required in all terminal Focus and CPT Electives.
  • The minimum passing grade for a course that is considered a prerequisite for another course is C-.
