Program Overview

The University of Amsterdam offers a Bachelor's program in Information Science (Informatiekunde). This program is designed for students interested in working with computers and does not require prior knowledge of programming or computer science.


Admission Requirements

To be admitted to the program, students must meet the following requirements:


  • Hold a VWO diploma with one of the following profiles:
    • Natuur en techniek
    • Natuur en gezondheid
    • Economie en maatschappij
    • Cultuur en maatschappij with wiskunde A or B
  • Alternatively, students with an HBO-propedeuse, HBO-diploma, or VWO-diploma (old style) must have completed Wiskunde A or B at the VWO level.
  • Students with a foreign diploma must have equivalent qualifications, including:
    • Wiskunde A or B
    • Engels
    • Nederlands

Application Process

The application process involves the following steps:


  1. Check deadlines: Students can apply from October 1 to May 1 via Studielink.
  2. Check admission requirements: Ensure that all necessary qualifications are met.
  3. Check study costs and tuition fees: Review the college tuition fees and other study costs.
  4. Register via Studielink: Use a DigiD to register for the program.
  5. Activate UvAnet ID: Receive and activate the UvAnet ID after registration.
  6. Participate in UvA Matching: A mandatory part of the application process, which includes an online matching assignment and an education day at the Science Park.

Post-Admission Steps

After (conditional) admission, students must:


  1. Request a college card: Used for identification and borrowing books.
  2. Pay tuition fees: Complete the registration by paying the tuition fees.
  3. Participate in the introduction day: Receive information about the start of the study year.

  • Colloquium doctum: An option for students aged 21 or older without a VWO diploma, HBO-propedeuse, or HBO-bachelor.
