Program Overview

The Master's program in Clinical Developmental Psychology at the University of Amsterdam aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of normal and abnormal behavior development in children and adolescents. The program focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of developmental disorders, as well as the facilitation of optimal development.

Program Structure

• The program is a one-year, full-time Master's degree with a study load of 60 EC.
• The program is taught in Dutch.
• The program includes coursework, a practical internship, and a research thesis.
• The program is accredited by the International School Psychology Association (ISPA).

Learning Objectives

• Students will be able to evaluate theories, models, and scientific research findings in the field of psychodiagnostics and treatment of children and adolescents.
• Students will be able to derive hypotheses or questions from scientific literature or theories.
• Students will be able to identify problems in practice and link them to scientific knowledge.
• Students will be able to describe the organization of healthcare for children, adolescents, and young adults.
• Students will acquire clinical skills in psychodiagnostic research, case conceptualization, therapeutic interventions, and interactional skills.

Career Prospects

• Graduates of the program will be eligible for the Basisaantekening Psychodiagnostiek (BAPD) certification, which is a requirement for registration in the kwaliteitsregister of the Stichting Kwaliteitsregister Jeugd (SKJ).
• Graduates will also be eligible for post-academic education programs, such as the Postmaster Opleiding GZ-psycholoog, Schoolpsycholoog NIP, and Kinder- en Jeugdpsycholoog.
• The program is designed to provide students with a broad range of skills and knowledge, making them suitable for a variety of careers in the field of clinical developmental psychology.

Accreditation

• The program is accredited by the International School Psychology Association (ISPA).
• Students who complete a practical internship in a school or school guidance service will receive a certificate indicating that their study program meets international standards for the training of school psychologists.
