Overview

The Person-Centred Emergency Preparedness (P-CEP) Online Certificate Course is designed to enhance emergency preparedness skills. This course helps individuals make their own emergency plan and facilitates preparedness with others. P-CEP enables people to self-assess their preparedness, capabilities, and support needs, developing a personal emergency plan for managing support needs in emergencies and acting together with their support network before, during, and after a disaster.

Course Content

The course consists of 6 modules:


  1. Introduction to Disability, Disasters and Person-Centred Emergency and Preparedness: Understand the issues faced by people with disabilities in disasters and the importance of person-centred approaches.
  2. Step 1: Understanding Everyday Strengths and Support Needs: Learn to self-assess capabilities and support needs using the Capability Wheel.
  3. Step 2: Self-Assessing Level of Preparedness and Learning about Disaster Risk: Understand the roles and levels of responsibility of individuals, organisations, and governments before, during, and after emergencies.
  4. Step 3: Making a Plan to Manage in an Emergency: Enable tailored emergency preparedness planning matched to support needs.
  5. Step 4: Communicating the Plan to the Support Network and Addressing Gaps Through Collaboration: Identify key features of effective plans and the critical importance of communicating the plan with the individual’s support network.
  6. Implementing P-CEP in the Community: Guide you in integrating P-CEP into your role, organisation, and community effectively.
