Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws
Overview
The Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws is a combined degree program that allows students to complete units of study with a total value of 240 credit points. The program comprises 96 credit points in units of study from the University of Sydney Business School and 144 credit points in units of study from the Sydney Law School.
Course Requirements
To be awarded the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws, students must complete the following requirements:
- 24 credit points in core units of study (four units) for the Bachelor of Commerce component
- A major (48 credit points) selected from the Table A subject areas for the Bachelor of Commerce component
- 6 credit points of units of study in the Open Learning Environment (OLE) selected from Table O for the Bachelor of Commerce component
- Any additional elective units of study from Tables A, S, or O required to make up 96 credit points for the Bachelor of Commerce component
- 48 credit points in core law units of study (8 units) to be completed in the first three years of the combined program in a specific annual sequence for the Bachelor of Laws component
- 54 credit points in additional core and 42 credit points in Part 1 and Part 2 elective law units of study (96 credit points in total) to be completed over the remaining two years of the degree at the Sydney Law School
Bachelor of Commerce (Dalyell Stream) and Bachelor of Laws
To be awarded the Bachelor of Commerce (Dalyell Stream) and Bachelor of Laws, students must complete the following requirements:
- 24 credit points in core units of study (four units) for the Bachelor of Commerce (Dalyell) component
- A major (48 credit points) selected from the Table A subject areas for the Bachelor of Commerce (Dalyell) component
- At least 12 credit points of Dalyell Stream units of study selected from Table D for the Bachelor of Commerce (Dalyell) component
- Any additional elective units of study from Tables A, S, O, or Table D required to make up 96 credit points for the Bachelor of Commerce (Dalyell) component
- 48 credit points in core law units of study (8 units) to be completed in the first three years of the combined program in a specific annual sequence for the Bachelor of Laws component
- 54 credit points in additional core and 42 credit points in Part 1 and Part 2 elective law units of study (96 credit points in total) to be completed over the remaining two years of the degree at the Sydney Law School

Degree with Honours
Both the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws can be awarded with honours. The Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) can be completed by suspending enrolment in the Bachelor of Laws for one year and enrolling in the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) for an additional year of full-time study, or by enrolling in the Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) after the completion of both the Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws degrees. The Bachelor of Laws (Honours) can be completed by completing a supervised dissertation by way of elective units of study in the fifth year of study.
Dalyell Stream
The Dalyell stream is a targeted stream that offers outstanding students the opportunity to engage in challenging experiences to gain greater breadth and/or depth of learning in their degree, and achieve the graduate qualities to a high level. Students enrolled in the Dalyell Stream must complete a minimum of 12 credit points of Dalyell Stream units of study (Table D).
Subject Areas for Majors and Electives
A Bachelor of Commerce major consists of 48 credit points in 1000, 2000, and 3000-level units of study in a single subject area. The Table A majors available are:

- Innovation and Entrepreneurship
- International Business
- Management and Leadership
- Marketing
Students can complete elective units of study from the subject areas listed in Table A (Business School) and Table S (shared pool). The available units of study are listed in Table A of this handbook and Table S, and/or Table O. Students enrolled in the Dalyell stream must complete at least 12 credit points of units of study listed in Table D in the Interdisciplinary Studies Handbook.
Law Units of Study
For the Bachelor of Laws component of the combined Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Laws, students must complete 48 credit points in LAWS units of study in a specified sequence. Refer to the Law Handbook for further details.
