Program Overview
Overview
The FMBA5002: Critical Analysis and Thought Leadership unit aims to develop critical communications skills. Topics covered include logical reasoning and rhetoric, identifying common fallacies, moral reasoning, communicating without words, techniques for writing opinion pieces, and crafting and communicating messages effectively. This unit provides students with an opportunity to analyze a situation, make a solid case for a decision, and communicate it persuasively.

Assessment
- In-semester test (Open book): Philosophy exam, 25% of the total mark, due in Week 03
- Assignment: Group presentation, 10% of the total mark, due in Week 05
- Assignment: Group video, 30% of the total mark, due in Week 07
- Assignment: Opinion piece, 35% of the total mark, due in Week 09
Assessment Summary
- Exam: The exam will include a series of written responses.
- Group presentation: Students in assigned groups will create a video for presentation.

- Opinion piece: Students will write a written report in response to a provided topic.
Assessment Criteria
The University awards common result grades, set out in the Coursework Policy 2014 (Schedule 1).
- High distinction: 85-100%, awarded when you demonstrate the learning outcomes for the unit at an exceptional standard.
- Distinction: 75-84%, awarded when you demonstrate the learning outcomes for the unit at a very high standard.
- Credit: 65-74%, awarded when you demonstrate the learning outcomes for the unit at a good standard.
- Pass: 50-64%, awarded when you demonstrate the learning outcomes for the unit at an acceptable standard.
- Fail: 0-49%, when you don’t meet the learning outcomes of the unit to a satisfactory standard.
Learning Support
Simple Extensions
If you encounter a problem submitting your work on time, you may be able to apply for an extension of five calendar days through a simple extension.
Special Consideration
