Metabolic Health

The Sydney Professional Certificate in Metabolic Health is designed to provide graduates with specialized knowledge in diabetes and obesity management. This is achieved by studying diabetes and obesity units at a postgraduate level.


Program Description

Graduates of this Professional Certificate will be able to provide an evidence-based, practical, and personalized approach to clinical care. This includes:


  • Accurately diagnosing prediabetes and type 2 diabetes
  • Effectively managing overweight and obesity, including lifestyle, medication, behavioral, and psychological approaches
  • Managing prediabetes with timely follow-up to detect diabetes

Program Requirements

To complete the Sydney Professional Certificate in Metabolic Health, students must:


  • Complete 12 credit points of 5000-level units of study

Units of Study

The following units are part of the program:


  • MBHT5001 Diabetes Management: 6 credit points
    • Assumed knowledge: This unit of study is recommended for medical graduates, as well as nursing or allied health graduates with a minimum of 12 months clinical experience
  • MBHT5003 Obesity and Pre-diabetes: Prevention and Care: 6 credit points
