Program Overview
The Sydney Professional Certificate in Orofacial Pain Science is designed to provide graduates with specialized knowledge in orofacial pain science. Graduates of this program will be able to discuss the basic anatomy and physiology of the orofacial region, identify major conditions associated with orofacial pain, and plan patient care using the principles of assessment, treatment, and management in orofacial pain.
Program Objectives
Graduates will be able to:
- Discuss the basic anatomy and physiology of the orofacial region
- Identify the major conditions associated with orofacial pain
- Identify the diagnostic criteria for orofacial pain conditions associated with temporomandibular disorders (TMD) and neuropathic pain
- Discuss the psychosocial factors associated with orofacial pain
- Plan patient care using the principles of assessment, treatment, and management in orofacial pain
- Discuss the relationship between sleep and pain, including the management of sleep disorders and orofacial pain conditions
Program Structure
Students must complete 12 credit points of 5000-level units of study, which include:
