Mechatronic Engineering stream
Robotics and Intelligent Systems specialisation
The Robotics and Intelligent Systems specialisation is designed for students in the Mechatronic or Mechatronic with Space stream. To achieve this specialisation, students must complete 24 credit points.
- Students must complete a minimum of 18 credit points from the following:
- AMME5710 Computer Vision and Image Processing | 6 | The unit assumes that students have strong skills in either MATLAB or Python. Prohibition: AMME4710, AMME5520.
- AMME5520 Advanced Control and Optimisation | 6 | Strong understanding of feedback control systems, specifically in the area of system modelling and control design in the frequency domain. Prerequisites: AMME3500 or AMME9501 or AMME8501. Prohibition: AMME8520.
- MECH5720 Sensors and Signals | 6 | Strong MATLAB skills and some Electromagnetics. Prerequisites: MTRX3700 or MTRX3760. Prohibition: MECH8720.
- MTRX4700 Experimental Robotics | 6 |
- Students may complete a maximum of 6 credit points from the following:
- BMET4790 Introduction to Biomechatronics | 6 | Knowledge in mechanical and electronic engineering; adequate maths and applied maths skills; background knowledge of physics, chemistry and biology; Some programming capability: MATLAB, C, C++, software tools used by engineers including CAD and EDA packages. Prerequisites: (MECH3921 or BMET3921) or MTRX3700 or MTRX3760 or (AMME5921 or BMET5921). Prohibition: AMME4790 or AMME5790 or BMET5790.
- COMP3308 Introduction to Artificial Intelligence | 6 | Prerequisites: INFO1110 or INFO1910 or ENGG1801 or ENGG1810 or DATA1002 or DATA1902. Prohibition: COMP3608. Assumed knowledge: Data structures and algorithms as covered in COMP2123 or COMP2823.
- COMP4318 Machine Learning and Data Mining | 6 | Assumed knowledge: A major in a computer science area. Experience with programming and data structures as covered in COMP2123 or COMP2823 or COMP9123 or equivalent. Discrete mathematics and probability (e.g. MATH1064 or equivalent); linear algebra and calculus (e.g. MATH1061 or equivalent). Prerequisites: DATA3888 or COMP3888 or COMP3988 or CSEC3888 or ISYS3888 or SOFT3888 or ENGG3112 or SCPU3001. Prohibition: COMP5318 or OCMP5318.
Units taken for the specialisation will also count toward requirements of the Mechatronic or Mechatronic with Space stream.
