Program Overview
Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood)
Overview
The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood) is a comprehensive program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to become effective early childhood educators. The program is underpinned by a suite of developmentally sequenced practical studies that are integrated with theoretical, evidence-based knowledge within the core teaching-and-learning and early-childhood-education units.
Practical Experience
The professional-experience component of the program provides students with the opportunity to develop their knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes in planning for, facilitating, and evaluating learning and care environments for young children. This component is guided by three overarching principles: professional knowledge, professional practice, and professional engagement. These principles are evidence-based, practice-centered, and aligned with the goals and intent of the Early Years Learning Framework and the Australian Professional Standards for Graduate Teachers.
Requirements for Completion
To complete the program, students must undertake a total of 90 days of field experience, which exceeds accreditation requirements for preservice early childhood teachers by 10 days. The field experience is distributed across the four years of the program:
- In year two, students complete 20 days of professional experience.
- In year three, students complete two professional experiences, collectively totaling 40 days.
- In their fourth and final year, students complete a 30-day internship.
Program Structure
The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in early childhood teaching and learning. The curriculum is structured to ensure that students develop a deep understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of early childhood education, as well as the skills and values necessary to become effective educators.
