Additional advice
The Honours in Agriculture and Food is a one-year 24 credit point research project that can be in any of the disciplines of plant production, agricultural science, soil and hydrology, food and agribusiness, and food science. This unit builds on theoretical and applied knowledge gained across units of study undertaken throughout a cognate major within a degree program. This unit is a corequisite with AFAB4104 in the first semester of honours. During the honours year, students will also complete four 6-credit point honours and advanced coursework units designed to support their training. Working with an academic supervisor, students will develop their ability to define a research project, including the production of testable hypotheses, the design and execution of a research strategy, interpretation of research findings, and contextualisation of the project outcomes. Students will complete a project proposal, condensed literature review, scientific research paper, communicate their research via an oral presentation, and have their research capabilities assessed. Honours gives students access to an exceptional range of career opportunities in agricultural, food science, agribusiness, and environmental professions, as well as being a qualification for undertaking advanced postgraduate research such as a PhD leading to a research career.
