Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Surgical Sciences is a postgraduate coursework program offered by the University of Sydney. Students must complete 24 credit points, including 24 credit points of surgery selective units of study. A unit of study is worth 6 credit points and represents approximately 10 hours of study per week in a 13-week semester.

• SURG5021: Surgical Immunology (6 credit points)
• SURG5027: Head and Neck by Dissection (6 credit points) - Assumed knowledge: This course is recommended for students who are preparing or have completed the GSSE or for a SET program
• SURG5028: Thorax, Back, Spinal Cord by Dissection (6 credit points) - Assumed knowledge: This course is recommended for students who are preparing or have completed the GSSE or for a SET program
• SURG5029: Upper and Lower Extremities by Dissection (6 credit points) - Assumed knowledge: This course is recommended for students who are preparing or have completed the GSSE or for a SET program
• SURG5030: Abdomen, Pelvis, Perineum by Dissection (6 credit points) - Assumed knowledge: This course is recommended for students who are preparing or have completed the GSSE or for a SET program
• SURG5031: Surgical Skills (6 credit points) - Assumed knowledge: Final year medical student knowledge of physiology, pathology, and anatomy is assumed
• SURG5032: Physiology for Surgeons (6 credit points)
• SURG5034: Surgical Anatomy Based on GSSE (6 credit points)
• SURG5036: Surg Research: Translation and Innovation (6 credit points)

Credit Points and Articulation

Credit points obtained in this course can be credited to the Graduate Certificate in Surgery, Graduate Diploma in Surgery, or Master of Surgery (without graduating from this course).
