Program Overview

University of Cincinnati College of Medicine

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine launched the Medical Sciences major in fall 2015 and celebrated its first graduating class in spring 2018.

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Medical Sciences

The Medical Sciences major provides students with integrated academic, experiential, and mentored opportunities to prepare them for advanced training in medicine and the biomedical sciences. In addition to taking courses that are required for the major, students choose from a broad range of elective courses. In consultation with an academic advisor, each student creates an Individual Development Plan (IDP) that best meets their career objectives.

Curriculum

  • During their first two years, students in the program participate in Learning Communities which develop a sense of camaraderie while students take the majority of their classes on west campus. They also begin working with a Pre-Professional Advising Center advisor.
  • For their capstone experience in the senior year, students select either the Health & Community: Service-Learning track or the Biomedical Research track.

Academic Plan

A general 4-year academic plan of Medical Sciences is available. Please note that depending on advanced credit, career plans, and interests, individual students' sequences and electives will vary. There is also a course-mapping for those who wish to pursue guidance on the MCAT for medical school.
