Program Overview
University of Cincinnati College of Medicine
The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine offers various programs, including the Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program.
Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program
The UC Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program provides fellows with clinical expertise in patient care as well as hands-on clinical and transitional research, supplemented with structured didactic learning. The goal of the program is to provide fellows with the tools needed to develop their skills for a career of their choosing, whether that be a physician scientist track or a purely clinical track.
Program Structure
The fellowship program training is divided into two phases.
- The first 18 months of the fellow's training (Phase 1), all fellows complete the fellowship training with clinical rotations in hematology and oncology.
- In the second 18 months (Phase 2), the fellows can choose the experience of their choice.
- For instance, a fellow interested in basic research may choose to be in the lab a majority of the time.
- A fellow may choose to be in the outpatient clinics to prepare for a career in clinical practice.
Program Highlights
The UC Division of Hematology Oncology contributes to the management and care of hematology and oncology patients at the UC Cancer Institute, West Chester Medical Center, Cincinnati Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, and University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the only academic tertiary referral center in the Tristate.
Fellow Performance
The program is proud to say that its fellows are among the top fellows in the country. Recently, only six fellowship programs across the country scored higher than the UC fellows on the hematology and oncology in-training exams.
