Program Overview
The Neurocritical Care Program at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) trains physicians in the acute care of critically ill patients with an underlying neurological process. The faculty consists of 11 neurointensivists from backgrounds including neurology
eurovascular
euro-interventional, epilepsy, emergency medicine, and pediatric neurocritical care.
Program Details
- Specific diseases and conditions include but are not limited to cerebrovascular disorders, neurotrauma, neuro-oncology, refractory status epilepticus, neuromuscular diseases, infections, encephalopathy, and perioperative neurosurgical care.
- The Neurocritical Care (NCC) service is also responsible for all targeted temperature management (TTM) for comatose survivors of cardiac arrest at UCMC.
- NCC fellows at UCMC rotate as the primary fellows in all other ICUs including, medical, surgical, cardiac/ECMO and burns.
Clinical Training
- NCC fellows experience their clinical training at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the region’s only Level 1 trauma center and Comprehensive Stroke Center.
- Core clinical services are provided in UCMC Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU), which is a 20-bed state-of-the-art intensive care unit with specialized neuro-monitoring options, Moberg monitoring for complex multimodal monitoring, continuous video EEG and compressed density spectral array EEG processing at the bedside.

- Core faculty includes certified neuro-intensivists, with adjunct faculty from neurology, neurosurgery, trauma.
