Program Overview

Pathobiology & Molecular Medicine Graduate Program

The Graduate Program in Pathobiology & Molecular Medicine offers a course of study in biomedical research leading to the Ph.D. degree. The program is administered by two clinical departments: Pathology and Internal Medicine. Pathology is a branch of medical science that concerns itself with the study of the nature of human disease and its causes, whereas Internal Medicine is concerned with therapeutic strategies to prevent or cure human diseases.

Program Overview

  • The program unites contemporary investigative research in biomedical sciences with an understanding of human disease and the challenges that face effective treatment.
  • Doctoral students are exposed to both Pathology and Internal Medicine disciplines.

Eligibility

  • Senior undergraduate students in the biological sciences who have an interest in applied medical science are eligible to apply.
  • The Program has also accepted medical doctors, medical laboratory technicians, and veterinarians wishing to pursue a research degree.

Duration of Study

  • Most students take 5 years to complete the program.
  • During this time, students receive a stipend of $36-38,000/year, health insurance, and complete tuition remission.

Curriculum and Schedule

  • The program includes a comprehensive curriculum that covers various aspects of biomedical research.
  • A detailed schedule is available for students to plan their coursework and research activities.

Research Areas

  • The program focuses on contemporary investigative research in biomedical sciences.
  • Students have the opportunity to work with faculty members from both Pathology and Internal Medicine departments.

Awards and Recognition

  • Students in the program have received various awards and recognition for their research work, including the ASIP Trainee Scholar Award and the Graduate Dean's Excellence Scholarship.

Faculty and Research Facilities

  • The program is administered by experienced faculty members from the Pathology and Internal Medicine departments.
  • Students have access to state-of-the-art research facilities and equipment to support their research activities.

Program Structure

  • The program includes a combination of coursework, research, and dissertation work.
  • Students are expected to complete a comprehensive exam and defend their dissertation at the end of the program.

Career Opportunities

  • Graduates of the program are prepared for careers in biomedical research, academia, and industry.
  • The program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a successful career in their chosen field.
