Program Overview


University of Cincinnati College of Medicine

The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine offers a fully ACGME-accredited residency program in combined Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.


About the Program

The program accepts three new residents annually to maintain a complement of twelve. The Pathology Residency Program trains residents in all of the subspecialties encompassed by the field of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology. Graduates of the program are prepared to practice independently and confidently in any practice setting.


Curriculum

The curriculum is structured to provide residents with the knowledge and skills required for practice at both academic and community environments. Residents learn from their experiences while providing patient care to the Cincinnati metropolitan area, southeastern Indiana, and northern Kentucky.

Faculty and Staff

Members of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine strive to provide a quality work environment unity, teamwork, and professional growth. Faculty and staff strive to assist our residents and will place at their disposal the resources of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the College of Medicine, the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the Cincinnati Children Hospital Medical Center, the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, and the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office.


Fellowships

In addition to our Residency training program, the Department of Pathology is pleased to offer several fellowship opportunities.


  • A one-year GI/Liver Surgical Pathology Fellowship is available at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, with up to two positions available annually.
    • Additional fellowships are offered by affiliate sites.
  • A one-year ACGME-accredited Pediatric Pathology Fellowship is available through Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center, accepting three fellows annually.
  • A one-year ACGME accredited Transfusion Medicine Fellowship is offered by Hoxworth Blood Center, with up to two positions available annually.

Research and Education

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine promotes excellence through teaching and practice in accordance with the ACGME-approved guidelines leading to board eligibility. Faculty and staff strive to assist our residents and will place at their disposal the resources of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, the College of Medicine, the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, the Cincinnati Children Hospital Medical Center, the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, and the Hamilton County Coroner’s Office. Our faculty are committed to the residents’ learning experience and promote an intellectual environment where inquisitive minds can thrive and prosper through the acquisition of new knowledge and skills. We teach relevant, meaningful, and well-defined up-to-date clinical science as it applies to current standards in patient care.
