Program Overview

University of Cincinnati College of Medicine

The University of Cincinnati’s Department of Anesthesiology proudly offers a one-year, ACGME-accredited fellowship in regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine.

Program Overview

Our program is designed to ensure optimal patient care while providing trainees the opportunity to develop their technical skills and enhance their expertise as a perioperative pain provider.

Program Details

The fellow will become proficient in providing perioperative pain care for all patients undergoing surgery at the University of Cincinnati. Their training includes performing a high volume and variety of regional anesthetic techniques. They are also trained in all aspects of perioperative pain control, including multimodal, non-opioid options available to patients throughout their perioperative course. The fellow will have the opportunity to partake in research and quality improvement initiatives within the Department of Anesthesiology and the UC Health system.

Rotations

The fellowship includes rotations at various sites to provide a robust, yet diverse experience for each trainee.

  • The fellow will work at high volume surgery centers, becoming proficient at perioperative regional procedures and ambulatory anesthesia.
    • They will spend time on the inpatient pain service at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, a level 1 trauma center, where they will become experts in perioperative pain control for all surgeries and patient populations.
    • Their time at West Chester Hospital will give them a chance to provide excellent perioperative pain care in a suburban, community hospital setting.
    • A rotation at Cincinnati Children’s Medical Center, a perennially top-rated pediatric hospital, will give each trainee valuable insight and training in pediatric regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine.
    • The fellow will rotate with the chronic pain management clinic to learn chronic pain medicine and its significant overlap with acute pain medicine.
