Program Overview
Program Overview
The University of Cincinnati College of Medicine offers a comprehensive Emergency Medicine residency program. Established in 1970, it was the first Emergency Medicine training program in the United States. The program has a strong educational mission, aiming to train Emergency Physicians with the clinical and professional skills necessary to succeed in any clinical environment and become leaders in Emergency Medicine.
Program Structure
- The program is four years long, with 56 residents.
- The fourth year is structured as a junior faculty role, where the R4 oversees both EM R1s, off-service residents, and medical students caring for patients in a 32-bed unit.
- This model allows the R4 to develop crucial skills in ED management, supervision, education, and patient care.

- The program is affiliated with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, providing exposure to over 90,000 ED visits per year.
