Department of Surgery

The Department of Surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is committed to providing exceptional surgical care and training.

Residency Program in Urology

The Urology residency program is a five-year program that provides residents with a comprehensive education in urologic surgery. The program includes rotations at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Good Samaritan Hospital, Children’s Hospital Medical Center, and University Hospital, as well as an elective in Female Urology at West Chester Hospital.

• The program provides residents with a wide range of surgical experiences, including minimally invasive endoscopic procedures and female incontinence procedures.
• Residents receive funding to attend the week-long national meeting of the American Urologic Association in their fourth year.
• Residents whose submitted papers are accepted for presentation at a national or sectional meeting are given funding to attend the meeting.

Conferences

The program includes a variety of conferences, including:

• Pathology Conference at Veterans Affairs Medical Center
• Morbidity and Mortality Conference
• Adult and pediatric radiology conferences
• Didactic lectures
• Oral examinations of medical knowledge
• Adult and pediatric journal clubs
• Pediatric lecture series
• Monthly tumor board meeting with Interventional Radiology, Radiology, and Pathology
• Indications conference

Urology Visiting Professors

The program hosts Visiting Professors three times a year, who meet with faculty and residents and give a major address to the Cincinnati Urological Society.

The program is directed by Courtney Plattner, MD, and coordinated by Violisha Chaney.
