Program Overview


Environmental Health: Industrial Hygiene Program

Overview

The Environmental Health: Industrial Hygiene program is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and design programs and systems to control exposures in environmental or occupational settings that may cause adverse human health effects. The program offers academic study at the Ph.D. level in three areas of concentration: Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Ergonomics, and Biomonitoring. Graduate study is supported by a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health Education and Research training grant, as well as University and other resources.


Career

The program provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue careers in industrial hygiene and related fields. Career information is sourced from Lightcast, a third-party provider of labor market data, and includes insights on industry, occupation, compensation, and projected growth for each profession.


Curriculum

The program curriculum is designed to provide students with a comprehensive education in industrial hygiene. The curriculum guide is available in two versions: PhD Industrial Hygiene Post-Baccalaureate and PhD Industrial Hygiene Post-Masters, both effective Fall 2025.

  • International transcripts must be evaluated by WES
  • Official transcripts of all colleges and universities must be submitted if accepted to the program

International students must meet additional requirements, which can be found on the International Office's website.


Application Deadlines

The application deadline for the program is February 1st for students applying to the full-time program and seeking University Graduate Assistantship funding. Part-time programs do not offer funding.


Accreditation

The University of Cincinnati and all regional campuses are accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.
