Program Overview

The Business Administration Accounting program is a Master of Science (MS) degree that can be completed in 1 year with a minimum of 30-54 credits.

Core Classes

The following core classes are required for all MS-Accounting students, totaling 18 core credit hours:

• ACCT6072: Taxation of Business Entities (C min) - 3 credits
• ACCT8021: Management Control Systems (C min) - 3 credits
• ACCT8071: Accounting Theory and Research (C min) - 3 credits
• ACCT8074: Advanced Auditing (C min) - 3 credits
• ACCT8089: Financial Statement Analysis (C min) - 3 credits
• BLAW8060: Business Law for Accountants (C min) - 3 credits
• BA7077: Career Management - 0 credits

Electives

Students are required to take 12 hours of electives, which should be in the accounting discipline (6000 level and above). Other graduate-level courses in other disciplines may be considered with the approval of the academic director.

Basic Business Knowledge Courses and Prerequisites

Basic Business Knowledge Courses

Required for all students who do not have an undergraduate degree in business:

• BANA7011: Data Analysis (C min) - 2 credits
• ECON7000: Foundations in Economics (C min) - 2 credits
• FIN7000: Foundations in Finance (C min) - 1 credit
• MKTG7000: Marketing Foundations (C min) - 1 credit
• MGMT7000: Organizations (C min) - 2 credits

Non-Accounting Business Degree--Prerequisites

Students with an undergraduate degree in business, but not in the accounting field, will need to take the following pre-requisite courses in accounting:

• ACCT3031: Intermediate Accounting I (C min) - 3 credits
• ACCT3032: Intermediate Accounting II (C min) - 3 credits
• ACCT3072: Introduction to Taxation (C min) - 3 credits
• ACCT3073: Cost Accounting (C min) - 3 credits
• ACCT4083: Auditing (C min) - 3 credits
