Master of Education Program Overview
The Master of Education (Ed.M.) program at WSU Tri-Cities allows students to specialize in their area of interest, participate in educational research, increase their employability and salary level, work with world-renowned faculty in small seminar-style classes, become a teacher leader, and improve and focus their instructional practices.
Program Specializations
The Ed.M. degree can be pursued in either the Curriculum and Instruction program or in the Language, Literacy, and Technology program.
Curriculum and Instruction
The non-thesis Ed.M. degree with a specialization in Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) focuses on advancing teachers’ or other professionals’ depth of knowledge in K-12 education. Candidates can opt for either a general emphasis encompassing core curricular areas or choose to focus on a specific area such as:
- Science and Mathematics Education
- Instructional Leaders
- Diverse Learners
- Program Development and Design The required coursework for the C&I degree emphasizes both theoretical and practical issues in K-12 curriculum and instruction.
Language, Literacy, and Technology
The Language, Literacy, and Technology graduate program prepares graduates for academic and leadership positions in teaching, research, and service with a focus on equity and social justice. The graduate program in Language, Literacy, and Technology includes a broad curriculum of study, including foundational courses in:
- Literacy within the disciplines
- The study of computer-assisted language and literacy development
- Communicating in a multilingual and multiliterate society
Application Process
Applicants are encouraged to apply by the Priority Deadline for the start term of interest. Applications are considered on a space available basis through the Close Date for each term.
- Fall Term Start: Priority Deadline is January 31; Close Date is July 1
- Spring Term Start: Priority Deadline is July 1; Close Date is November 1
- Summer Term Start: Priority Deadline is January 31; Close Date is April 1

- The degree in Curriculum and Instruction does not lead to a teaching endorsement.
- The degree in Language, Literacy and Technology does not lead to a teaching endorsement.
