Program Overview


Master of Arts in Anthropology

The Master of Arts degrees in Anthropology are offered in archaeology, cultural anthropology, and evolutionary anthropology. Our program emphasizes a four-field approach through a series of core classes that all our graduates take in order to establish a solid foundation in Anthropology. Each program area offers specialized courses in methodological, theoretical, and regional areas.


Degree Description

The Master of Arts in Anthropology program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the field. The program emphasizes a four-field approach, which includes archaeology, cultural anthropology, evolutionary anthropology, and linguistic anthropology. This approach allows students to gain a broad understanding of the discipline and to develop a solid foundation in Anthropology.


Admission Requirements

The Department requires the following items:


  • A current curriculum vitae
  • A statement of intent/letter of professional goals. This letter should clearly state which Anthropology Graduate Program you are interested in.
  • Official transcripts of all post-secondary education must be sent directly from the institution(s) you attended to the Graduate School.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
  • For students with an M.A. or M.S., you must submit a copy of your thesis or master’s research paper with application.
  • For students with a B.A. or B.S., you may electronically submit one or two undergraduate papers to document your research and writing abilities.
