Program Overview

Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering – Environmental Engineering

Degree Description

The Master in Engineering is a non-thesis 30 credit (Cr) hour program consisting of 9 3-Cr courses and a 3-Cr capstone project. The curriculum allows you to earn your master’s degree while balancing work, family, and other demands.

Environmental engineers work to protect human and environmental health by keeping air, water, and soil clean. The program strives to make relevant expertise available to anyone who seeks to benefit from it and be aware of and engaged in solving environmental problems with special reference to soil and water. The program also strives to impart appropriate skills to those interested in project management and leading people and organizations.

The need for environmental engineers will steadily increase over the next decade. Further, 2021 median pay was $96,820 per year for an environmental engineer with a bachelor’s degree. An environmental engineer with a master’s degree generally earns a significantly higher salary than someone with a bachelor’s degree.

The online degree program will use modern technology to deliver lectures, so that students can attend from convenient locations. Remote examinations can also be arranged. Meetings can be arranged via Zoom or other means. The students do not need to travel to the campus. All these arrangements can be made without compromising student experience or learning. The high quality of the traditional program students are used to is equal to that of the online degree program.

Admission Requirements

A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 is needed for admission into the program. However, applications from other engineering and science programs are acceptable. These students may need to take additional prerequisite courses. Students with a GPA of less than 3.0 may also be considered for provisional admission on a case-by-case basis at the recommendation of the program lead.

Student Opportunities

Opportunities to learn from full-time professors with years of experience as teachers and researchers in environmental engineering, and from adjunct professors with years of experience in industries and national laboratories, will provide students with collaborative skills and knowledge in their field.
