Program Overview

Introduction to Robotic Systems Engineering M.Sc.

The Robotic Systems Engineering M.Sc. program is designed for robotic specialists and provides an outstanding education at the interface between mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer sciences. The program focuses on the design of robotic systems, which deals with various perception principles that enable the systems to recognize and analyze their environment, adapt to it, and take appropriate actions to accomplish the given tasks.

Course Contents

A graduate of the Master Program Robotic Systems Engineering will:

  • Learn in specialist facilities, which includes a wide range of robotic systems: industrial robots, mobile robots, assistance robotics, and intralogistics robotic systems
  • Develop, implement, and program robotic systems for different levels of autonomy
  • Design industrial robots that are automated, programmable, and capable of moving in a dexterous workspace
  • Combine and apply technological skills of mechanics, electrical drives, sensor technology, and information processing to optimize systems of robots for different domains
  • Organize and monitor the operation and manufacturing processes
  • Develop robotic systems for embedded production systems or autonomous warehouses

FAQ

General Questions

  • How long will my Curriculum Change Request take to be processed? It will take approximately 10-14 days for the request to be processed.
  • What formal requirements do I have to keep in mind when writing my Internship Report? The report should include the internship front page, be at least 24 pages long (excluding pictures, reference lists, and the table of content), and include a critical review reflecting on the overall experience during the internship.
  • To whom do I have to submit the Internship report and the Internship Certificate? The internship report and certificate must be sent directly to the Praktikantenamt.
  • I am planning to write my master's thesis externally. What are the requirements for finding an internal supervisor? Any institute that is a faculty 4 institute will be able to supervise internally. If an institute offers a module in the standard Curriculum of Robotic Systems Engineering, this institute can also be selected as the internal supervisor, even if it is not a faculty 4 institute.
  • What do I need to know regarding supervisors and assistants?
    • Supervising professor: Professor of RWTH Institutes of faculty 4 or part of the curriculum, internal supervisor
    • Supervising research assistant: responsible research assistant of the same RWTH Institute
    • External Supervisor: only for external thesis at a company or research institute that is not part of faculty 4 or the curriculum.

Additional Information

  • I want to add a module to my Curriculum, but I don't know how. Please fill out the Curriculum Change and send it to the specified email address.
  • Any general questions regarding Robotic Systems Engineering M.Sc. Refer to the provided links for more information on the International Academy, Examination Regulations, Internship, and Prüfungsordnung.
  • I want my language course to be credited. Whom do I have to contact? Please contact the corresponding person at the examination office.
  • I sent a Curriculum Change Request to add a module to my Curriculum, but it got rejected. The decision is made based on whether the module fits the overall goal of the Robotic Systems Engineering degree.
  • I want to apply for a scholarship and need a recommendation letter. What documents and information do you require from me? Provide the required information, including the batch/year of study, current transcript of records, planned completion date, and any extracurricular or working experience.
