Program Overview

Battery Science and Technology in Engineering M.Sc.

Overview

The Battery Science and Technology in Engineering M.Sc. program is a highly innovative, interdisciplinary course that prepares students for the application, research, and development of battery technology. The program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the entire value chain of batteries, from design and development to application and recycling.

Program Structure

The program consists of a combination of compulsory and elective modules, as well as research labs and a master's thesis. The compulsory modules provide a solid foundation in the fundamentals of chemistry and engineering for batteries, thermodynamics and data processing, lithium-ion batteries and battery systems, and energy storage systems. The elective modules offer a range of specialized topics, including physical and chemical methods for post-mortem investigations of batteries, battery modeling and machine learning, and advanced battery diagnostics and mobile applications.

Research Labs

The program includes three research labs, where students work on current research projects and apply their knowledge and skills in a practical setting. The research labs cover topics such as chemical and physical cell and material analysis, diagnostics, modeling, recycling, and life cycle analysis.

Master's Thesis

The master's thesis is the final component of the program, where students work on a research project under the supervision of a faculty member. The thesis provides an opportunity for students to demonstrate their ability to work independently and apply their knowledge and skills to a real-world problem.

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as natural or engineering sciences. The program is taught in English, and applicants must demonstrate proficiency in English.

Career Prospects

Graduates of the program are qualified for a range of careers in industries related to battery production, application, and recycling. Potential employers include companies in the automotive, energy, and electronics sectors, as well as research institutions and universities.

Faculty

The program is offered by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, with contributions from other faculties, including Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Georesources and Materials Science.
