Introduction to the Promotion Program at RWTH Aachen

The RWTH Aachen University offers a comprehensive promotion program for doctoral candidates. This program is designed to provide students with the necessary support and resources to complete their doctoral studies successfully.

RWTH-Online

• The online application and enrollment process can be accessed through the RWTH-Online portal.
• The application and enrollment deadlines are available in PDF format.
• A step-by-step guide for enrollment is also provided in PDF format.

Supervision of the Promotion

• Doctoral candidates are required to find a professor who is willing to supervise their dissertation.
• The supervisor and the candidate will agree on a promotion program that includes the offers of the CDS.
• The program is tailored to the candidate's individual needs and is based on the minimum requirements of the faculty and the candidate's previous qualifications.

Enrollment in the Promotion Program

• Enrollment in the promotion program is only possible if the requirements of § 67 Abs. 4 HG are met and a certificate of admission to the promotion program is submitted.
• The enrollment form can be used to enroll in the promotion program during the specified application and enrollment periods.
• Enrollment is not mandatory.

Application with a Master's Degree from Abroad

• International applicants who have obtained their Master's degree from a university abroad can find information on admission requirements, application and enrollment procedures, and special support services on the website for international doctoral candidates.
• Application and enrollment deadlines:
  • Winter semester:
    • Application period: August 1 to December 15
    • Enrollment period: Last working day (Monday to Friday) before Christmas
  • Summer semester:
    • Application period: February 1 to June 15
    • Enrollment period: June 30
