Master Program in Architecture and Urban Planning

The Master program in Architecture and Urban Planning is a comprehensive course that focuses on three interconnected perspectives:

  1. The imparting of reflexive, analytical competences and scientific grounds,
  2. The development of spatial concepts and strategies in preparation for urban development and design tasks, and
  3. The design and control of spatial processes by appropriate methods, instruments, and process architectures.

Curriculum

The curriculum includes:

  • Curriculum Master winter semester
  • MT: Master Thesis

Teaching Focus

Teaching focuses on the following areas:

  1. Reflexive, analytical competences and scientific grounds
  2. Spatial concepts and strategies for urban development and design tasks
  3. Design and control of spatial processes

Master in Architecture and Urban Planning

The chair is central to the Master's course in Urban Planning and plays an important role in the Master's course in Architecture. The central teaching format in the curriculum is the studio (project-oriented study), which enables in-depth work on spatial concepts and strategies from a neighborhood to a regional scale. An interdisciplinary working culture is fostered in cooperation with related chairs at the faculty and other departments within RWTH Aachen University.

Transforming City Regions

The English-language Master's program centers around urban-regional transformation processes along selected international focus areas. With a strong research orientation, analysis and conception of systemic interrelationships between different spatial levels, subject areas, and control levers are emphasized. The Master's program harnesses the potential for cooperation within RWTH University and offers a highly interdisciplinary range of topics.

Research Modules

Research modules are offered in close relation to current research and dissertation projects within the team. This also prepares students for a scientific track and subsequent doctorate. Pt.Talks facilitates exchange among young scientists and offers insights into current research projects in the field of planning theory and urban development.
