The M.Sc. Robotic Systems Engineering (M.Sc. RoboSys) focuses on the integration of Artificial Intelligence into robotics engineering to improve human-robot collaboration in industry and society alike. Program Overview

Bridging gaps between mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, and computer science, the M.Sc. RoboSys utilizes the latest knowledge of kinematic structures, drive systems, and robot programming. Using robotic solutions in production processes is on the rise, not only to increase productivity but also to create high-quality, safe, and affordable products.


Study Tracks

The program offers three exclusive study tracks:


  • Development & Design: Gain in-depth understanding of the development and design of robots and robotic systems.
  • Data & AI: Gain in-depth understanding of the concepts, algorithms, and applications of robotics, data, and artificial intelligence.
  • Autonomous & Sensor-based Systems: Focus on aspects of sensor-based planning and control for robotic systems.

  • Internship: A 10-week internship gives you the opportunity to gain further practical experience in the industry.
  • Language Courses: Learning German is essential to successfully integrate into a German cultural environment and to pursue internship and job opportunities in Germany.
  • Elective Courses: A range of elective courses is available, including Computational Foundations of Digital Twin Technologies, Reinforcement Learning and Learning-Based Control, and Introduction to Artificial Intelligence.
  • Research Project: Participate in current research at RWTH and write your first small research paper.
  • Master Thesis: The Master’s thesis is the final examination to complete the M.Sc. RoboSys.

Admission Requirements

  1. A Bachelor Degree: Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology, or Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering or a related discipline.
  2. Relevant Work Experience: A minimum of 12 months relevant work experience by the time of enrollment.
  3. GRE General Test or Completed GEC: Minimum scores must be achieved in Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, and Analytical Writing.
  4. Fundamental knowledge: In subjects such as mechanics, machine design, electrical engineering, materials science, thermodynamics, and computer science.

Application Period

  • Non-EU applicants: December 2 to March 1
  • EU applicants: December 2 to July 15
