Overview of the Graduate Certificate in Digital Signal Processing

The Graduate Certificate in Digital Signal Processing (DSP) is a 100% online program designed for mid-to-late career engineers new to the area of digital signal processing. It also benefits engineering managers who require background knowledge of DSP and its implementation in emerging technologies.


Certificate Requirements

The Graduate Certificate in DSP requires 15 credit hours.


Required DSP Courses – 6 Credit Hours

  • ECE 53800: Digital Signal Processing I
  • ECE 60000: Random Variables and Signals

Electives – 9 Credit Hours

  • ECE 54400: Digital Communications
  • ECE 58000: Optimization Methods for Systems and Control
  • ECE 60200: Lumped System Theory
  • ECE 60800: Computational Models and Methods
  • ECE 63700: Digital Image Processing I
  • MA 51100: Linear Algebra with Applications

*Only one Math (MA) course may be selected **Either ECE 60200 or ECE 60800 can be applied to the certificate.


Criteria for Admissions

Applicants must hold a bachelor's degree in an appropriate area (Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or Technology) with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent (A=4.0).


Acceptance into the certificate program does not assure admission to the Graduate School of Purdue University to pursue an advanced degree. Those who wish to pursue a degree program along with the certificate will need to fill out two separate applications, each with a different semester start term.


A maximum of 12 credits from the DSP certificate can be applied to a Purdue degree program. Check with the department of your intended degree program for specifics.
