Computer Science Program Overview
The Department of Computer Science offers a comprehensive program that provides students with a strong foundation in computer science. The program is designed to be flexible, allowing students to deepen their understanding in a specific area of computer science.
Program Requirements
The program requires students to complete six core courses, which lay a strong foundation for computer science majors. Each student then selects a Track in which to complete six advanced courses. Each Track has 2-4 Required Courses and a list of potential electives. A student may complete more than one Track if desired.
Core Requirements
The core requirements include:
- CS 18000: Problem Solving and Object-Oriented Programming (4 credits, 1st semester)
- CS 18200: Foundations of Computer Science (3 credits, 2nd semester)
- CS 24000: Programming in C (3 credits, 2nd semester)
- CS 25000: Computer Architecture (4 credits, 3-4 semesters)
- CS 25100: Data Structures and Algorithms (3 credits, 3-4 semesters)
- CS 25200: Systems Programming (4 credits, 4th semester)
Tracks
The Department of Computer Science offers several Tracks, including:
- Computational Science and Engineering Track
- Computer Graphics and Visualization Track
- Database and Information Systems Track
- (Algorithmic) Foundations Track
- Machine Intelligence Track
- Programming Language Track
- Security Track
- Software Engineering Track

College of Science Requirement Restrictions
The College of Science has certain requirement restrictions, including:
- Teambuilding and Collaboration: Cannot be met through credit-by-exam
- Unacceptable courses for credit for CS students in College of Science
