Computer Science Program Overview

The Department of Computer Science offers a comprehensive program that provides students with a strong foundation in computer science. The program is designed to be flexible, allowing students to deepen their understanding in a specific area of computer science.

Program Requirements

The program requires students to complete six core courses, which lay a strong foundation for computer science majors. Each student then selects a Track in which to complete six advanced courses. Each Track has 2-4 Required Courses and a list of potential electives. A student may complete more than one Track if desired.

Core Requirements

The core requirements include:

  • CS 18000: Problem Solving and Object-Oriented Programming (4 credits, 1st semester)
  • CS 18200: Foundations of Computer Science (3 credits, 2nd semester)
  • CS 24000: Programming in C (3 credits, 2nd semester)
  • CS 25000: Computer Architecture (4 credits, 3-4 semesters)
  • CS 25100: Data Structures and Algorithms (3 credits, 3-4 semesters)
  • CS 25200: Systems Programming (4 credits, 4th semester)

Tracks

The Department of Computer Science offers several Tracks, including:

  • Computational Science and Engineering Track
  • Computer Graphics and Visualization Track
  • Database and Information Systems Track
  • (Algorithmic) Foundations Track
  • Machine Intelligence Track
  • Programming Language Track
  • Security Track
  • Software Engineering Track
