Program Overview
Certificate Program in Developmental Disabilities
The Certificate Program in Developmental Disabilities is a joint effort between The Boggs Center on Disability and Human Development at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, and the Rutgers School of Social Work, Office of Continuing Education. The program is intended to enhance the skills and knowledge of professionals working with people with disabilities in a variety of settings.
Purpose
The purpose of the Certificate Program in Developmental Disabilities is to provide professionals with the necessary skills and knowledge to work effectively with people with disabilities.
Training
Workshops for the Certificate Program in Developmental Disabilities are offered online as webinars. Lifespan topics in developmental disabilities are addressed, including:
- Diagnosis through early childhood
- Transition to adult life
- Community services and supports
- Aging
- Disability policy
- Legal and ethical issues
- Multicultural perspectives
- Supporting families
Certificates of completion are offered after each workshop, and a final certificate is awarded when all requirements have been met. Participants not seeking the certificate program are welcome to take individual workshops. To receive the final certificate, a participant must attend 9 required workshops and 3 elective workshops.
