  • Readings in Early Modern Europe: The Rise of the State (56:512:552): Explores Early Modern Europe’s transition from the Middle Ages to the Modern era, highlighting Europe’s rise as a global power and the birth of the modern state.

Admissions Requirements

  • Transcripts: A transcript showing the completion of an undergraduate degree with a B average in previous academic work with evidence of distinction in work in history.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Two letters of recommendation.
  • Personal Statement: A personal statement of one to two pages explaining reasons for seeking an M.A. in history and the aspects of the past that most interest the student.
  • Writing Sample: A writing sample of fewer than 15 pages.
