Public Health Program
The undergraduate program in Public Health is provided through Rutgers’ Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. As one of the strongest policy schools in the nation, the Bloustein School has the capacity to address local, state, regional, national and international policy and planning issues with expertise and credibility. The School is a leader in such areas as smart growth, transportation planning, workforce development, and environmental health, and builds on its association with research centers in related areas. The Bloustein School is also distinctive in its simultaneous focus on graduate and undergraduate education.
Program Description
The public health major prepares students for graduate education in public health and entry-level positions in a broad spectrum of private and public health organizations. Students receive a conceptual understanding of interrelated health, environmental, economic, educational, and social welfare issues.
Potential Career Paths
Students in the Public Health Program are prepared for positions in a wide range of services including:
- infectious disease control
- health problems of children, older adults and the medically under-served
- chronic disease management
- health monitoring and surveillance
- environmental/occupational safety
- emergency preparedness

- health organizations Continued education at the graduate level is also an option
Admissions Requirements
Admission requirements for the Public Health program are listed as Prerequisites on the Bloustein School website. To pursue the major, students must apply and be admitted to the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.
Transferring Credits
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey will transfer a maximum of 60 credits or one-half of the total degree credits required for a baccalaureate degree from a NJ county college to a Rutgers degree program for those students who have completed an A.A. or A.S. degree. Students may be awarded up to 90 credits from a 4-year institution.
