HC IMPACT Leadership Program
Program Overview
The HC IMPACT Leadership program is designed to strengthen leadership capacity and skill set, enabling participants to become more dynamic communicators, compassionate and ethical role models, confident and goal-directed team members, and culturally sensitive individuals who can drive meaningful change. This program offers mindful coaching, opportunities to meet community leaders, and thoughtful consideration of one's leadership style and aspirations.
Eligibility and Requirements
To be eligible for the HC IMPACT Leadership program:
- Honors College students must be in good academic standing.
- Preference is given to 2nd and 3rd year students.
- All sessions are held on Fridays from 2-3:30pm, starting January 31st, 2025, and ending April 11th, 2025.
- Applicants must be able to attend all 6 sessions.
Program Sessions
The program features several sessions with distinguished speakers:
February 7, 2025
- Mayor Brad Cohen will share his insights and experiences. Mayor Cohen was elected to office in November 2016 and has a background in public service, including his role on the East Brunswick Board of Education. He is also a practicing gynecologist.
February 21, 2025
- Dr. Brittney Cooper will lead the session. Dr. Cooper is a Professor of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and Africana Studies, and the Principal Investigator and Founding Director of the Race and Gender Equity (RAGE) Lab at Rutgers. She has authored several books, including "Beyond Respectability" and "Eloquent Rage."
March 7, 2025
- Dr. Afia Ofori-Mensa will be the guest speaker. Dr. Ofori-Mensa serves as the Director of Equitable Postgraduate Academic Opportunity in the Emma Bloomberg Center for Access & Opportunity and is a Lecturer in Humanistic Studies at Princeton University. Her work focuses on supporting undergraduates, especially first-generation college students and low-income students, in pursuing careers in higher education.
April 4, 2025
- Dr. Julia Baumanis will conduct the session. Dr. Baumanis is Assistant Professor and Associate Director of Bands at Rutgers University, the first female conductor in the university's 259-year history. She leads various ensembles and teaches instrumental conducting courses, and is involved in several professional music organizations.
Program Details
The HC IMPACT Leadership program is a unique opportunity for Honors College students to develop their leadership skills and network with community leaders and peers. Through a series of sessions and coaching, participants will explore their leadership potential and gain insights from experienced professionals in various fields.
