The African, Middle Eastern, and South Asian Languages and Literatures program offers a comprehensive undergraduate program that includes a major and minors.

  • 01:013:206 Banned Books: This course explores the global history of censorship and discusses how individual texts fit into that larger history.
    • It focuses on 20th and 21st-century works of fiction, graphic novels, poetry, essays, and films that have been censored or banned for reasons of political dissidence, obscenity, and blasphemy.
    • Sample texts include works by Miriam Tlali, Son’allah Ibrahim, Salman Rushdie, Taslima Nasreen, Ahmad Naji, Khaled Hosseini, and Azar Nafisi.
