Africana Studies Program

The Africana Studies program offers a comprehensive curriculum that explores the experiences and cultures of African diasporic communities.


Undergraduate Program

  • The undergraduate program provides students with a deep understanding of the historical, social, and cultural contexts of Africana communities.
  • The program offers a range of courses, including:
    • Overviews and Introduction
    • Black Communities Around the World/International Contexts
    • Black Sociology, Economics & Politics
    • The Black Experience Through Culture
    • Africana Experience in Science and Technology
    • Hands-On/Africana in Action
  • Students can choose to major or minor in Africana Studies, with opportunities for honors programs and advising.

  • 01:014:286 Mentoring as Public Service: This course introduces students to the Rutgers Future Scholars program and the skills, practices, and ethics of mentoring high school scholars from economically and educationally challenged backgrounds.
