Program Overview
Accelerated Bachelor/Master Degree Program
The Accelerated Bachelor/Master Degree Program allows undergraduate students in the Bachelor’s degree programs to choose an accelerated path to a Master of Science. Undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics-Teaching Option program can join the Accelerated Degree path to a Master of Arts in Teaching, which leads to a teaching certification for New Jersey’s secondary schools.
Why an Accelerated Degree?
- Save time: Enroll in graduate courses during the senior year that count towards both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Students may take up to three courses.
- Save money: Graduate-level courses taken during the fall and spring semesters of the senior year are billed at the undergraduate tuition rate.
How to Apply
Step 1: Apply to the Accelerated Program
- First Semester Junior Year: Interested students should meet with the Graduate Program Director to determine eligibility.
- Second Semester Junior Year:
- Apply to the program through the Graduate Program Director.
- If accepted, work with the Graduate Director to determine which course to enroll in for the first semester of the senior year.
Step 2: Register for Graduate School Courses
- Second Semester Junior Year: During pre-registration advising, register for one graduate course (500 or 600 level) for the first semester of the senior year using a special permission number.
- First Semester Senior Year: Register for one or two graduate courses (500 or 600 level) to be taken in the spring semester of the senior year.
Step 3: Apply to the Graduate School
- Second Semester Senior Year:
- Apply to the Graduate School, following all normal procedures.
- Students are awarded the Baccalaureate degree.
- If formally admitted to the graduate school, students may begin taking courses after graduation.
Important Considerations
- Students may not take more than three graduate courses while an undergraduate student.
- Students will not be classified as a graduate student until the bachelor’s degree has been awarded and the student has applied to and been accepted to the master’s program.
