Honors College and Child Health Institute of NJ Summer Research Program (CHIRP)
Program Overview
The program "CHIRP" is a collaboration between the Child Health Institute of New Jersey (CHINJ) at Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences and the Honors College at Rutgers-New Brunswick. The focus is on research training in the understanding of mechanisms underlying childhood diseases with mentoring by Robert Wood Johnson Medical School faculty. The CHIRP summer experience includes "hands-on" laboratory research, weekly exposure to clinical research, as well as a symposium at which students present their research findings.
- 8-week Summer Research Experience (Full-time, ~40 hours a week)
- Summer Stipend: $3000 (housing and parking are not included)
- The program involves weekly meetings with CHINJ Faculty on topics related to pediatric research
- Students will present their research topics to their peers and faculty mentors during the CHIRP Symposium
- Summer experience has the potential to lead to involvement in research during following academic year(s)
Eligibility and Requirements
To be eligible, students:
- Must be current members of the Honors College and in good academic standing at Rutgers-New Brunswick. Students who participated in CHIRP previously are not eligible to reapply.
- May not register to take a class for credit during the time they are working in the laboratory.
- Are required to attend the final program symposium.
Program Details
- The program runs from the beginning of June to the end of July. This is a full-time experience.
